Pulangan Berkala

He...he...he.

Tak apalah...seperti kata pepatah Melayu '...Biar lambat asalkan selamat'.

Sinar Harapan...?

Pembaca...Masihkah anda ingat siri coretan saya bertajuk "Oh Sungguh Malangnya Nasib Mu...!"?

Saya turut menghubungi PBAT Cawangan Pahang.

Hopefully it will be of use to you in presenting his case for some sort of reward for this good and brave soldier whom I know very well as his Officer Commanding . We all should also be very grateful to sudara Major (B) Nor Ibrahim Bin Sulaiman of Jottings of an xnuripilot for posting this story on his blog which helped me to come forward with information on this incident which happened a long time ago. Please acknowledge receipt of book and keep me posted of further developments.

Salam

Idris

I received a similar e-mail on 9 November 2009. Being  'computer savvy', without any hesitation, I promptly responded on 11 November 2009 giving the details as required, including my password. On the same day, my brother from Taiping called enquiring  my whereabouts...."Of course I'm in Jitra, happily playing golf". He sounded so relieved  since he told me that he received my 'Mayday' e-mail from the UK. I did not know what he was talking about. And...at this point I realised that I had no access to Yahoo! at all and it lasted almost 2 days.

He e-mailed my so-called 'distressed e-mail' (unedited) below to my wife...

Modus operandi of these vultures is very simple. They sent the above e-mail to all my 'contacts'. I came to know about this when I received  calls from Singapore and Japan asking about my well being. Oh boy...what  an embarrasing spot I was in! My course of action was to publish a post entitled "WARNING!!!" on 11 November 2009. And, followed by sending e-mails to my contacts that I could still remember their addresses using a newly-opened 'gmail'.

Readers...I sincerely hope you will benefit from reading this experience of mine. Do not fall into this cyber trap!!

I Bent The Rules...

L to R: Lt Fong, Nor Ibrahim, Arwah F/Sgt Hamzah de Souza with Banding Bridge in the background

"East-West Highway...The East-West Highway was built in the 1967 as a defence-related highway. In the early stages, there was military presence in every kilometre. The road was built to cut off the Communist Party of Malaya from the safe havens in Thailand. During construction, the highway was sabotaged by the Communist terrorists during the Communist insurgency from 1967 to 1980. Many of workers were killed and the buildozers was seriously damaged. The East-West Highway was put under strict security control by Malaysian army when the highway was opened. Motorists were allowed to use the highway at daytime only due to security reasons. The military control of the highway was lifted after the insurgency war was ended in 1989.

The Malaysian Public Works Department (JKR) monument was erected in Pulau Banding near the Lake Temenggor Bridge on 1982 to commemorates those who died during construction of the East-West Highway and lake bridge."...Wikipedia

I can proudly say that I was 'involved' directly in its construction. But, sadly, to date I'm yet to have the pleasure to drive along the most picturesque and the first highway of Malaysia. And...constructed by JKR/PWD...what an achievement considering working under hostile environment those days. My involvement was through providing air support to the ground troops who were located around the area. They were stationed there to prevent the communist terrorists (CTs) from causing damage to the heavy equipment and killing the workers.

Look at the Banding Bridge spanning across the man-made lake...what an awesome sight! Do you know what Banding was to me before the construction of the bridge? It was  just a 'permanent' LP occupied by the PPH (Police Field Force) near a small and shallow river then; the width was about 50 metre and you could wade across the river. It was now at the bottom of the lake. Of course I knew what I'm talking about. One of nuri's taskings those days was to collect parachutes at Banding and other permanent LPs.

You see, Caribou transport aircraft - now decommissioned - used to airdrop supplies to the permanent LPs like Banding, Fort Kemar, Fort Chabai, Fort Telanok. The pick-up point for the Caribou was Taiping Airfield and the Air Despatch Unit of the Malaysian Service Corp was responsible to prepare the supplies to be airdropped. Later, Nuri was tasked to collect those parachutes. A real pity I didn't take any photograph.  I never envisioned to jot down my experiences.

As I said much ealier, before the formation of 'Composite' squadrons, No 10 Sqn of RMAF Kuantan, covered the whole of Peninsular Malaysia. This 'Iron Bird' was the life-line of those in the operation areas, including the East-West Highway (EWH). Well, I can safely say the EWH was more or less my 'playground'. Navigation through recognition of permanent features...he...he...he...

Anyway, I nearly crashed when operating in the area. It was some time in June 1977 when I was tasked for troops pulled out from an LP somewhere near the highway - still under construction then. The troops were to be off-loaded at Batu Melintang camp. The LP was atop of a hill, clear of all obstacles. On the last sortie,  when I pulled the collective to a hover, I knew the Nuri was 'heavy'. One of my options was to offload a few of the soldiers and came back for them later on. However, the problem was that their security might be jeorpardized...the CTs might take advantage of the situation knowing the small number of the troops there. Morever, weather might not permit me to pick them out. After considering these factors, I decided to take off with the load.

Well...I told my co-pilot to give full power, ie, both SSL (Speed Selector Lever) fully forward, and while the Nuri was on the ground, I jerked the 'collective' lever up to a maximum allowable 'Torque' and dived to gain speed. Oh boy...that sinking feeling...it was a real scary experience! Syukur Alhamdulillah...we landed safely at Batu Melintang camp. Mission successfully accomplished and flew back to Kuantan.

Readers...for your information, Nuri's 'Torque' (Power) limitations are as follows:
  • Transient Max double engine - 120; single engine 150, time - 5 sec.
  • Max power double engine - 103; single 123, time - 30 min.
  • Normal power double engine - 86; single 103, time - none.
Nuri pilots...It doesn't matter what you may think of me. My sole objective in writing my experiences is for you to learn something from it. Who knows, maybe it may save your live and others, InsyaAllah. I survived to tell you my tales. I hope you, too, will survive to tell yours when the time comes.

[PENGORBANAN DALAM KENANGAN
JALAN RAYA TIMUR BARAT
(1970 - 1982)

One of these days, I hope to drive along this highway with its picturesque views, InsyaAllah.

2009...A Reflection

31 December 2009..."The Pullers" Annual Golf Championship. This morning my gang decided to use buggies instead of pulling the trolleys. After all,  today is the last day of 2009 and I don't intend to play until next year...he...he. The prize for the winner over 18 holes was very attractive...RM15.00  worth of lunch at our favourite 5* haunt...Gymkhana Cafe. On condition...you must play at least to your handicap. The other 3 would 'willingly' contribute RM5.00 each. Mind you, for RM15.00 one can get a hearty meal there.

We started with 2nd 9. By 16th hole(Par 5)...I DQ (disqualified) myself....gave up!!  Why? How could I play when on tee-off, the ball flew off tangent into the pond...so was the 2nd tee-off! This meant I gave up the right and a confirmed contributor to the prize - whoever he may be. Now you know the existence of a new species of fish - 'Talapiah Horn'-in the DGCC's ponds. Only Abang Tad (Mokhtar) managed to play to his handcap for the 2nd 9 = 44 gross.  The other two? Well, at least they still had a chance and could recover during 1st 9.

1st 9...I enticed  Hamid and Cikgu Khalid to agree to a 'consolation prize'  - RM10.00 meal over 9 holes. As what the latest created Malay proverb says...Ada udang di sebalik mi (replacing' ...ada udang disebalik batu'). For RM10.00 I can get 'mi udang'. You see, I was very sure I could easily 'eat' them since I'm a better golfer; I'm a 21 handicapper whereas they're all 24. Anytime I can beat them. My motive behind this suggestion was...At least I didn't have to pay Abang Tad...he...he.

Anyway, by the time we completed the 9th hole, Abang Tad missed his free lunch by 1 stroke, ie, 89 gross. I played to my handicap - 47 gross, but Cikgu played 1 'under' - 47 gross. He won the consolation prize. We proceeded to Gymkhana for lunch. Before the game, I told my wife that I would be having lunch with my friends at their expense. Well...no free lunch for me...next year maybe...InsyaAllah.

Lto R: Hamid, Cikgu Khalid, Mokhtar, Nor Ibrahim at Gymkhana Cafe

Syukur to Almighty Allah...I'm still able to pull my trolley and truly enjoying my twilight years. And, jotting down whatever comes to my mind in this amazing borderless world. As you can see in my profile, I started my blog in April 2008 for one purpose only - to write about Hepatitis C (HCV), but nothing came out till Jun 2009. The polemic of bringing back Chin Peng to Malaysia 'forced' me to write in 'my way'. I'm so much against this suggestion. In retrospect, I should 'thank' him; without this polemic there would be no motivating factor for me to write. Blessing in disguise indeed.

I'm disappointed that I failed to convince the government to give an allowance to the recipients of the gallantry awards other than SP and PGB - JPP, PTU and KPK. I tried my level best and to a certain extent, I'm proud to say that this issue was raised in the Parliament. And, of course, it really saddened me when the mass media exposed the missing F5E engines scandal. To me, the perpetrators are traitors. As an ex-member of the RMAF...it hurts!

2009...Auld Lang Syne. Welcome 2010...My resolutions? Truthfully...NONE ...Que Sera Sera ...!

Masih Hangat Diperkatakan

Kemarahan saya masih belum reda...Malah sehingga kini, dah masuk minggu kedua, media massa masih turut melapor skandal 'kecurian enjin' walaupun bukan lagi di muka hadapan.

TUDM...Jangan salahkan sesiapa apabila organisasi Mu dijadikan bahan ketawa...SUNGGUH PEDIH SEHINGGA MENYUSUK KALBU...!

Mingguan Malaysia 27 Disember 2009

Kedaulatan negara terancam semata-mata RM mengaburi pemikiran anda. Tidakkah anda merasa bersalah?

Harta tinggal berjuta-juta
Yang hidup enjoy gila
Al Fatihah pun tak merasa

TAPI APA NAK DIKATAKAN, YOP OI...NASI DAH JADI BUBUR!!

Di Renjis...Renjis...

Disember...Cuti sekolah = 'Musim Walimatul Urus...".

Perkahwinan Ahmad Fathi & Nurul Aini

Patutlah permainan golf saya tidak lagi sama 'standard' dengan Tiger Woods...He...he...he... Tolong jangan pandang serong...perangai saya sama sekali tidak macam beliau. Sekarang standard golf saya hanya boleh dibandingkan dengan Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player atau Arnold Palmer sahaja...he...he...he.
