Manusia Atau Apa Ni...?

Lain pula negara jiran kita, Singapura...Kerajaan menggalakkan rakyatnya 'membuat' anak! Eh...Eh...Macam kilang pula...Diarah untuk menambahkan produksi kerana 'under production'.
Mingguan Malaysia pada 14 February 2010

Menurut PM Singapura, Lee Hsien Loong, dalam ucapan Tahun Baru Cina "...tahun lalu sahaja (2009), kita kekurangan 10,000 bayi untuk menggantikan kita...". Ayuh...Apa lagi rakyat Singapura, 'full production' lah...He...He...He.

  • Sjn Kamis bin Dolmat, 3 RAMD
  • L/Kpl Kamarulzaman bin Zakaria, X Sqn RGK
  • L/Kpl Suandi bin Saim, X Sqn RGK

Capt's Longhouse said...Nor,

,,,guess, you might be interested to know that i might be the last aircrew from the No.10 squadron that briefed them before their departure to ops. gubir to recover another shot-up 139 holed Nuri (Murad's)from Gubir back to Butterworth base.

,,,in fact, i was to carry out the aircraft ferry back but since i had flown more than 100 hrs within that bloody week, Capt Choo from 7 Sqn. as relief back-up crew, advised me to just ferry my chopper back to Kuantan for its servicing schedule.

,,,so that morning, while having a shower together, all 3 of us, Choo & Chang plus myself discussed about the emergency landing sites available along the Gubir valley and protocol to follow in case of force landings if in case we can't make it to the emergency LPs !.

,,,My advise was to force land into the deep valley basin and on to the bushy bamboo trees inorder to help cushion the chopper, which Capt. Choo agreed but Lt(U)Chung suggested that force landing on the bigger trees would be his option !.

,,,we were jolly about it since this informal safety briefing was carried out in the bathroom while soaping ourselves naked !.

,,,if am not wrong, the Nuri that was shot down was crewed by Lt(U) Chung and Lt(U) Wan Munsiff and not Capt. Choo & Capt(U) Mustapha as most might think so.

,,,I was flying overhead Grik, when I heard over the radio that the Nuri had crashed but unfortunately my chopper has just enough flying hours to ferry her back to Kuantan. My request to divert for SAR was turned down due to the technical short comings, however there were other choppers already at the location to carry out the SAR function.

,,,Apparently, the crashed chopper initially landed over a huge tree and caught fire upon contact with the ground below, killing everyone onboard, indeed most unfortunately. Am not too sure if it could have made it to the deep valley end, whereby the trees were smaller in size ?.

,,,the bathing experience together plus special jolly briefings we had together still is fresh in my mind until today !. I can somehow still remember the great jokes and laughters while having that very early morning cold shower too at the officer's Mess RMAF/RAAF Butterworth.

,,,Indeed, we always had a great time together too there after our operational flights from the thai/M'sian border areas.

,,,This is the 2nd time and the last that Capt(U)Choo had taken over my flight assignment during our tour of flight duties !. He was a great buddy and I own him aplenty. Just a few months before he had positioned his chopper as the dummy to be shot at, while I carried out the winching down of troops to surround the bloody CTs during another special ops. near the Thai/M'sian border area and not too a distance away from Gubir.

Faizul said...Hello Capt Longhouse,

Thank you for refreshing our memories on that tragic incident where we lost a lot of our friends and comrades.

I was in Sibu Detachment during that period fighting our own little war with the CT's there.

There was a marked increase in traffic on our HF channel 2 and it eventually dawned on us that we had lost an aircraft and all on board.

Allahuwaalam

Abah said...Sambungan.....
Takdir menentukan segala-galanya....

Tembakan ARTY diminta kearah jangkaan Lokasi Musuh berada

Alfatihah........Amin

Mej (B) Nor Ibrahim Bin Sulaiman said...Saudara Abah,

Allahhuwaalam

Mej (B) Nor Ibrahim Bin Sulaiman said...Saudara Anonymous,

Beliau terselamat kerana 'helmet'...takdir!

Robert Rizal Abdullah said...Squad,

I was then in Markas 2 Div as SO 1 Log. I saw the mandi jenazah of Allahyarham Kapt (U) Mustafa Kamal at Kem 2 Div in Penang and sembahyang jenazah.

With this kind of cruelty do we still want Chin Peng to come back to Malaysia? He better not otherwise somebody will take revenge and kill him.

Mengapalah  penerima JPP, PTU & KPK didiskriminasikan...Kesihan!

Mungkin...Mungkin...Mungkin!

Hooray...Saya sungguh teruja! Mana tidaknya...Akhirnya saya berjaya 'membolos' saringan 'Gate-Keepers' rumah tol di Pejabat Perdana Menteri! Maksud saya, setelah banyak  menghantar surat dan e-mel yang tidak pernah dijawab...tiba-tiba terkejut beruk apabila menerima surat berikut...he...he...he...

Mungkin...Mungkin...Mungkin!!

Idiosyncrasies Of Nuri Captains

I wonder who this 'Anonymous' is! I'm confident I know you, my friend. His unedited comments in my article entitled "Serba Tak Kena"...

'...Still not change heh... keep writing so that I can continue reading and to tell you hah... you are just like you.... do you realize that!!! may be many of your copilots or sqn boys knew it.... hahahahahaha fun reading and don't come to the city or else will drive you crazy or you will fumble the first hole at the Darulaman GCC the next day you play golf....

You are just great..!!! friend!!!'

...triggers me to write on idiosyncrasies of Nuri captains whom I had the opportunity to fly with during my copilot days at No 10 Squadron, RMAF Kuantan. I flew with almost all the captains of the squadron. However, there were 3 captains whose idiosyncrasies are still fresh in my memory.

A. Flight Commander (FC)...

This particular FC speciality was to perform running landing on the runaway either on coming back to the Base from operational flying or during training flights. For the benefit of non-fliers, the limitation for 'running landing' of the Nuri is 40 knots. That is stated in the Flight Manual. However, this executive loved to 'run' at 110 knots...just like a fixed wing aircraft!! As a co-pilot, I just shut up. Now...Don't blame the squadron pilots if they follow suit. Afterall...we follow our leaders...Leadership by Example! I dread to imagine what would happen if the tyres burst or the undercarriage gave way!

B. Flight Commander (FC)...

Not the same FC mentioned above. This guy was very much concerned with 'SAR' (Search and Rescue) in anticipation of a forced landing in the jungle. All military aircraft are required to make 'Ops Normal' call to the Base Ops Room at 30 minutes interval during transit flights. Say the flight from Kuantan to Ipoh...The normal practice was  to say '...Abeam Kuala Lipis this time...Ops Normal'. Not good enough for this captain. 'What do you mean by 'abeam Kuala Lipis'? North...south...north-west...10 nm....40 nm...blah...blah.  Accuracy...accuracy. So '...20 nm north west of Kuala Lipis...Ops Normal'. Those days there were no GPS ...otherwise I suppose  I had to include 'long & lat' of the reporting points. He was right and I agreed with him...it made SAR easier if ever there need to be one. To a certain extent...I inculcated this habit throughout my flying days.

However, he was not that 'SOP-abiding' pilot! Once I was flying with him to Pulau Perhentian Besar. We flew senior government officers assigned to assess the influx of the 'Boat People' - Vietnamese refugees - fleeing their country with the fall of Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City). There were thousands of them on the island and they came using barges. That was my first and last trip to the island...a real beautiful island. After offloading the paxs, we flew back to Kuantan. When we approached Rantau Abang, famous for turtles those days, he took control from me and did a low level flying over the beach. There were a lot of foreign tourists then. Now you know why the turtles refused to 'visit' Rantau Abang anymore...no peace even to lay eggs!

Sadly, he is no longer with us ...only memory lingers on! Al-fatihah...

C. Squadron Pilot...

I looked forward for 'Bamboo Express' (Ops Bamboo) tasks. The task involved troop lifts and resupply for the Police Field Force (PFF), mainly the Senoi Praaq. The pick-up point was Lasah, Sg Siput. The flight time from Lasah to certain posts, eg, Pasig, Gob, was more than 30 minutes. So, you see, one round trip to Pasig took about 1 hour. On the average, I clocked more than 20 hours for these Ops and we had to night stop at Butterworth Base, at least for 2 nights. This captain, Lieutenant in rank, took off early in the morning from Kuantan and on reaching Lasah, shut down the Nuri for a short briefing by the Liaison Officer (LO). That  was the last shutting down before landing at Butterworth Base. After that...'running' refuelling and  running lunch of 'nasi bungkus'.  We had our lunch during running refuelling or while flying to the posts. I 'had control' while he ate and vice versa. Frankly, I didn't understand why he refused to shut down for lunch under the tent prepared by the PFF.

When we clocked the daily maximum of  7 flying hours, he would then request an extension for flight to Butterworth Base. It was  really a very tiring flight...8 solid hours in the seat except for a short briefing! What do you expect of me on reaching the room? After dinner at the 'Makcik' stall...back to the room...z z z z z. Totally exhausted to say hello to members there!! The next day...back to the same routine.

He too...is no longer with us! May your soul rest in peace...

Now...back to Anonymous. I wonder what my squadron pilots/co-pilots make up of me! It does not matter anymore to me. Afterall...those were the good old flying days...my friends.

Eco-Friendly Golf Course

What a pity...! Look at the barren landscape between holes #13 and #15 of Darulaman Golf & Country Club (DGCC). Formerly the area was covered mostly with rubber trees. Now the area has been cleared to make way for bungalow houses.
Taken from #13 with #15 in the background

I'm not against development, mind you. What I really cannot comprehend is why the developer has to cut down all the trees? Why not just cut those that are necessary only?

Why I'm complaining? Well, first of all, now the course is very dusty indeed, especially during the current hot spell. Heavy lorries moving along the perimeter of the course resulted in the surrounding areas being covered with dust. However, on a positive note, you don't have to dye your hair  with henna since, not only your hair but your entire body, will be coloured 'gold' due to the dust.

Secondly...As a 'trolley puller', I really enjoy the morning stroll. You can listen to the 'merbok' (doves) and other species singing and chirping merrily while we hit the balls. And 'platoons' of monkeys running around the course, particularly the 'Sultanah 9' (2nd 9). Squirrels swinging from trees to trees. Now, except for the birds and an alarmingly reduced number of squirrels, there are no more monkeys to be seen hunting for their 'breakfast'! To me, it was a beautiful sight to behold seeing them running and we have to wait till they cross the fairway to resume our play. Now...only the memory lingers! Their natural habitat is being replaced by human beings.

This Pride of the North is an eco-friendly golf club. Don't believe?
See the organic fertilizer on the tee-box...I sympathise with the Malaysianised- Mexican, complete with sombrero with his over-used 'driver' to tee-off at Par 3.  Oh boy...he is truly a 'driver-man'. Without the driver, he is incapacitated...driver for tee-off, fairway shots, 'tree-under', rough and even in the bunkers! Old timers...remember the tv series "Have Gun Will Travel"? Well...this Mexican buddy of mine subscribes to "Have Driver Will Play". He had to be extremely careful not the hit the fresh organic fertilizer on the tee-box, otherwise you know what....! That is one hazard we, the morning golfers, have to endure before the workers remove those unwanted contributions.

Whatever it is, as long as I'm allowed to pull my trolley...I'm happy. Afterall, who am I to comment?
