BUT WHY WE, THE RECIPIENTS OF THE JPP, PTU AND KPK, ARE BEING DISCRIMINATED?? DON'T YOU THINK THAT WE, TOO, DESERVE  WHAT OUR COUNTERPARTS - SP AND PGB - GET?? FOR YOU TO PONDER!

renHave they, the decision makers researched how the PTU was won? How many PTU winners/award holders; checked their CITATIONS; ONE WAS NOT AWARDED THE PTU FOR FLYING THE NURI BUT FOR GOING ON RESCUE MISSIONS IN HOSTILE TERRAIN, EVEN AFTER COMING HOME WITH TWO HUNDRED BULLET HOLES OR MORE WITH SHATTERED WINDSCREENS AND HAVING TO GO IN AGAIN THE NEXT MORNING TO THE SAME LANDING PAD AS THE CASUALTY WAS STILL TRAPPED IN THE SAME LP KNOWING THAT THE COMMUNIST TERRORISTS WERE STILL WAITING THERE FOR THE RETURNING NURI FOR THEY KNOW THAT THE NURI PILOT AND SQUADRON WILL NOT REST UNTIL THE INFANTRY CASUALTY IS SUCCESSFULLY RESCUED. tHIS IS VERY IMPORTANT AS THE NURI PILOT MUST GET THE JOB DONE LESS THE MORALE OF THE GROUND TROOPS WILL BE SEVERELY AFFECTED THAT THEY WILL NOT GIVE THEIR 110 PERCENT TO THE OPERATIONS AT HAND. tHERE IS NOTHING WORST THAN FOR A COMMANDER ON THE GROUND BE HE A PLATOON COMMANDER, COMPANY COMMANDER OR A BATTALION COMMANDER TO HAVE A DEMORALIZED UNIT BECAUSE HIS WOUNDED COMRADE IS NOT EXTRICATED FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT; IT CAN HAPPEN TO HIM AND BE FACED WITH THE SAME SITUATION AND BE LEFT IN THE BATTLE FRONT UNCARED FOR WHICH IS WHAT I AM FEELING NOW MY PRIME MINISTER, THE EX DEFENCE MINISTER, THINKS MY CONTRIBUTIONS ARE NOT WORTH A SEN ALTHOUGH MY RESCUE MISSION IN THAILAND COST THE GOVERNMENT THOUSANDS OF RINGGIT MALAYSIA AS I HAD TO TAKE OFF AT FIRST LIGHT ESCORTED BY TWO TEBUANS FIGHTER JETS FIRING ROCKETS AND GUNS WHILE ME AND MY CREW RE-ENTERRED THE SAME LP THAT I WAS SHOT THE PREVIOUS DAY .MY CREW AND I SUCCESSFULLY SAVED THE INFANTRYMAN , A SERGEANT WHO WAS SHOT BY THE CTS THE DAY BEFORE, I BELIEVE HE IS STILL IN A POSITION TO CELEBRATE HIS HARI RAYA HOLIDAYS NOW NOT KNOWING WHO PULLED HIM OUT ON THAT FATEFUL DAY. I AM RETIRED NOW AND I BELIEVE THE SERGEANT ALSO IS AND I AM SURE HE HAS A FEW SCARS TO SHOW HIS GRAND CHILDREN AND HIS CONTRIBUTION TO TODAY'S PEACEFUL CONDITION. DURING MY ENTIRE TOUR WITH NO. 3 SQUADRON I WAS INVOLVED IN OPERASI SELAMAT SAWADDEE, DAOYAI MUSNAH1 AND 2, THE NURI FLIGHT WAS SHOT 22 TIMES OR THEREABOUT AND TWO COMMANDO ESCORTS SACRIFICED THEIR LIVES AND THEY BOTH DIED, ON DIFFERENT OCCASIONS SHOT IN THAI TERITORY, ESCORTING ME AND MY CREW. THE NURI CREW WILL ALWAYS GET HIS CASUALTIES OUT AT THE RISK OF THE CREW'S LIVES AND LOSS OF AIRCRAFT. THANKS TO TUHAN ALLAH I DID NOT LOSE ANY AIRCRAFT AND ALWAYS BROUGHT MY CREWS AND HELICOPTERS HOME SAFELY ALTHOUGH I CANNOT QUANTIFY THE COST OF REPAIR TO THE RMAF.

Dear 2Lt Peh,

Now you know.....!

Dear Chong,

My regret is that I didn't take the opportunity to bring this issue to the attention of the MPs when the allowances of SP and PGB was discussed in the Parliament recently. Should this matter was brought up then, I'm sure the end result might be in our favour.

Maybe we should let the MPs bring this issue in the next Parliamentary session.

I did call the MPs and sms him on the three medals on the debate but nothing happen!!! Seem quiet on the northern front and if he doesn't bring up the issue then I am going to tell off this MP. I am not the recipient of the award but we must not give up. Parliamentary debate is still in session so we must keep pushing the issue.
Pse sms the issue to your MP!!! The MPs do not know the existent of the three medals and we need to make them understand.

,,,guess, I will relate another incident whereby 14 x CTs surrendered after being surrounded by our security forces during Ops. Telemong, Pahang sometime in 1976 ?.
,,,initially, they the CTs refused to but after flying the Nuri doing numerous figure 8 flights overhead their camp plus finally hovering directly over their heads !!. They agreed to put their arms down and I was instructed to pick them up from an jungle clearing, hurriedly constructed by the troops BUT unfortunately it was just too restrictive so we flew back to base camp.
,,,Guess what, while waiting for the clearing to be made largher/safer, the Home Minister himself called over the telephone to speak to me !!..demanding that they are waiting in Sungai Besi Camp to receive the surrended CTs and TOLD me off, not to expect "Subang Airport" as a clearing for landing, before I could explain further for the delay !!.. I was instructed to take-off and get the CTS in asap !!.
,,,So on my 2nd attempt to land, an over hanging tree branch broke off and hit my tail rotors which caused the Nuri to spin around, however I managed to pull her up into the air and gained speed to fly her back for an emergency running landing at the school padang at Kpg. Telemong.
,,,3 x Alouette helicopters were then utilized to pick-up the surrendered CTs back to K.L. where the Press and Home Minister were waiting.
,,,the story does not end there ! guess what ? I was repremanded for the tail rotor damaged incident by my Senior Training Captain in the Sqn. (no need to name names-lah, he knows who he is !)and was threaten to be taken off from the list for the Flying Instructors Course in the U.K. due end of that month too !.
,,,citations were written and all others got their recognitions, Yes I salute them, they did their role bravely indeed. The Home Minister was all over the papers and TV, if only the real truth were made known then !.
,,,Lucky, I was called to MINDEF to be explained why, am not going across for the U.K. training when the Air Chief happened to pass by, I took the opportunity to relay what actually happened and was renominated for the training course !.
,,,well, I came back as an Helicopter Instructor and personally trained 48 x aircrews for the RMAF b4 I call it a day after serving 11 bloody fighting years for King and Country, indeed again, am forever greatful for the experience and foundation gained while in the services. Perhaps, one day I will relay other frightening/challenging experience we all had while fighting/flying against the CTs in the 70 ths. yaa ??.
,,,yes, we had courage and tons of pioneering spirit that dares to be different plus fortitude and toughness that provide the spirit for life's battles...it made me as an individual a unique/independent/aggressive/assertive/go-getting to conquer fresh frontiers in/out-side the Armed Forces. AGAIN I THANKs the RMAF for all of these too.
,,,BUT please don't forget those with the Gallantry Awards too-lah.

Mej. Dr. Nor Ibrahim bin Sulaiman PTU TUDM (B) berkata...

Dear Sharif,
Now you're opening up. I want the rakyat to know that we, nuri pilots in particular, played a crucial role during the counter-insurgency warfare those days. It's high time these untold stories are made known to the general public.

Capt's Longhouse berkata...

,,,guess some of us would like to forget and forgive the past events that we all went through while in the service when times were indeed very hard plus losing many buddies killed in action !.
,,,in fact, i lost more than 30 pilots friends from the airforce alone plus many many more from the Army and Police Field Force.
,,,logged in my flying log book are 387 mercy flights alone if am not wrong if i can still remember correctly the numbers. The numbers of medevac/bodyvac/casevac are indeed frustrating to count or sad to recall cos. many were friends/buddies that i had made prior to their misadvanture while fighting against the damn CTs, whereby nowadays there are people willing to bring back their killer leader Chin Peng back as an bloody hero !!
,,,guess, you can appreciate my inner feelings on this subject issue, i am willing to kill any of these guys on behalf of those that were killed back in those days.
,,,so why are we or people like me keeping to ourselves ?. We have served for King and Country i.e done our part, time is passing and theworld is changing. As such not much time to look at the past, its the present and limited future am living for. The business of life is to go forward..the world is advancing in the super fast lane-lah. Mana ada masa to go backwards my friend ??. Today's success may become tomorrow's ingredients for stagnation Yeop oii !!.
,,,we can't be trailing in the wake, otherwise we will be tools that have gone absolute, good only for the scrap yard.

note ; in actual fact, i have many many thousands of stories/incidents/events that has yet to be penned down,,,perhaps one of these days ?..but a lot of my past working records are still available and are utilized as protocols/standards etc presently,...plus incorporated into Safety and Logistics Management Systems in softwares too.
,,,am just taking a short break right now on the island b4 coming back to the main stream as an active player in the game of living life in the city. hahaha !!

Capt's Longhouse berkata...

Mej Nor and buddies ! yoo,,,sharing another 'untold experience' of an young Alouette pilot from 3 Sqn. Butterworth - 1974!

...Date/time to be reconfirmed, till I find my log book again-lah.
...Was on special detachment with the Special Branch Chief himself at Fort Gemala for 2 x weeks in the jungle base as stand-by Aloutte recce chopper but nothing happened for the first week and was invited for some fishing trip by the orang asli/police field force officer and Army Rept. So off I went stripped down just in my shorts plus T shirt on their wooden sampan for fish bombing !
,,,wow the ikan kelah was struggling after the 1st underwater blow-up and I jumped into the river to bring the fishes back but the strong current swept me across the other end ! Upon taking a BIG fish in hand, I stopped at the river edge for some rest and noticed some movements in the jungle!. Holy SHIT !!..CTs were watching us and I immediately swam across to the orang asli guide plus we all made our way back to base camp safely!!. The special Ops. was immediately launched and within the next couple of weeks, the security forces managed to kill/capture a few of the 40 odd CTs at that area.
,,,Guess what ?. One of the captured CTs a Malay guy (he looks like Mej Kalid Ali haha) from Kelantan told me that he had his gun sight at me while I was on the sampan but thought that I was an orang asli and if only he knew that was the chopper pilot (meself) he would had pulled the trigger !. We had a great laugh and apparently he is now serving in the SB too, probably retired by now !!.
,,,So its not too bad to be with curly hairs and dark skin too hehehe..saved my day that day too.
Very stupid of me going out fishing but that was the normal thing to do by the SB personnel plus orang asli guides at all the jungle forts that we used to fly in/out then. Kept this experience secret from the Sqn/Flt. Commander, too scared that they might stop me from flying alone into the jungle again in support of Ops. Bamboo etc hahaha. boy OOO boy !! that was one crazy experience kept in my heart for the last 35 odd years Geee !!.

Mej. Dr. Nor Ibrahim bin Sulaiman PTU TUDM (B) berkata...

Dear Sharif,
Can I have your permission to post your comments in my "Jottings"?

Capt's Longhouse berkata...

Nor,
,,guess at times I might be feeling concerned with what others think about me/us, not that am wishing for more appreciation and attention..just not wanting for people to take us aircrew for granted only lah. They don't always see how difficult it is for me/us all to accomplish all that we have done for oneself as well as for the nation at large. Suggest that we don't be afraid/shy to open up to everyone nowadays regardless about any pressures with our inner feelings.
...My Guess ??,,,If others understand our stresses/fighting spirits more during/after our days in the RMAF, they can be more supportive !?.
,,,Especially so, to the younger aircrews still serving in the services for King and Country.
